A woman who fled a 'polygamist sect' referred to as the Kingston Group has recounted the precise moment she realized she needed to leave.
Priscilla Tucker, who is from Utah, was raised in the Kingston Group, which encourages polygamy and marrying someone within your own family.
Priscilla, who has since escaped and is living a very different life at the age of 27, has been speaking about her time in the 'cult' on social media and podcasts.
When Priscilla turned 17, she discovered that she was set to marry her cousin.
A troubling lineage.
"My whole entire family wanted me to marry my first cousin," she told the Cults to Consciousness podcast. "But I didn't want to marry my first cousin. So I told him not to propose to me, and he said he wouldn't."

Priscilla remarked, "It was a really strange sensation for me since his mother is my mother's sister, and my father is his father's uncle, which means I'm connected to him through both sides of the family."
"Typically in The Order, marrying your cousin means you don't spend your childhood together or share all your experiences, but that wasn't the case for me since our mothers were sisters."
"It felt really strange because his mother would say things like, 'Oh wow, I'm just thrilled! I can already tell you’re going to be incredible, and I feel like I know you so well already.'"
"And then our grandmother exclaimed, 'Wow, I can't express how thrilled I am that my two grandchildren are tying the knot!'"
Priscilla chose not to marry her cousin and successfully devised a plan to break free from the life she had always known.

Priscilla's mother orchestrated a 'kidnapping' that brought her to a camp designed to educate women on the principles of the sect.
She successfully made her escape again, but it was definitely a memorable experience.
"I found myself leaving in the dead of night and hopped on a bus to Las Vegas," she shared.
Priscilla's life has changed significantly these days, as she shares her home with her partner and their little girl.
"There are numerous problems, and to be honest, I believe that the core issues stem from mental health," she remarked.
"You can clearly see the physical problems, but the mental struggles are far more severe."
